Location

The quaint village of Titchfield hosts a variety of traditional shops, inns and restaurants. The renowned bird sanctuary at Titchfield Haven is nearby and there are lovely walks along the beautiful Meon Valley, and the UK’s second-oldest canal. Another must are the ruins of the 13th century Abbey linked to Shakespeare through his patron, The Earl of Southampton, who once lived in the palatial house which took the place of the original monastery. There is reason to believe that Shakespeare and his actors may have actually performed plays here before the Lord Southampton and his entourage.

Fareham offers maritime and national history, woodland walks, museums, conservation areas and coastline. Also visit nautical Southampton and Portsmouth for waterside dining, shopping and ferry trips to the Isle of Wight. At Portsmouth you can visit a host of historic ships including Nelson’s warship HMS Victory and the exciting new Spinnaker Tower.

Further afield, The New Forest, Winchester, Chichester and Bournemouth beckon. Good nearby bathing beaches at Hill Head or Lee-on–the-Solent are easily reached. Shops 400 yards.
